Commissioned in the late 1800s by the 6th Duke of Portland for his wife, the Portland tiara is an impressive piece of jewelry that contains Ceylon and Burmese sapphires, natural saltwater pearls, and diamonds set in silver and gold. Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) are two of the most well-known historic locales for sapphire, after Kashmir, while natural saltwater pearls are incredibly rare. That makes this tiara a treasure indeed! Courtesy: Christie's
