A “super spiral” cut, color-change garnet. These pyrope garnets from Morogoro, Tanzania change color from purplish-pink under incandescent light (Image 1) to purple under daylight-equivalent light (Image 2). This phenomenon is believed to be caused by higher than normal amounts of vanadium and chromium. The larger the stone, the more noticeable the color change. The super spiral cut stone weighs 15.25 carats and comes from the same material as the 42.42-carat rough crystal next to it. Color-change garnets of this size, intensity, and clarity are incredibly rare. Learn more: https://bit.ly/2LhNGwy
