The Golden Gift

A golden gift - in more ways than one. Angelina Jolie and jewelry designer Robert Procop donated this citrine necklace to the Smithsonian’s National Gem Collection in 2015. It features 64 cushion cut citrines and a stunning 177.11-carat pear-shaped citrine pendant set in 18K gold. Called the "Jolie Citrine Necklace," it is housed in the same hall that contains the Hope Diamond and the Star of Asia sapphire. Jolie designed this necklace in collaboration with Procop as part of the Style of Jolie collection. Proceeds from the sales of jewelry in this collection are donated to the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict, which builds schools for children in conflict-affected areas. The first few schools were built in Afghanistan. Courtesy: RP Studio

Lets Know About Emerald.

If you are not a Gemmologist, don’t worry,

Let’s try to know about Emerald today with “JEWEL THIEF”

Emerald are one of the most desirable Gemstones due to their beauty and lovely Green colour.

The finest emeralds generally come from Columbia, Africa, Brazil and the Russian mines who also produce fine quality stones.

Emerald is a precious gemstone comes in the beryl family; the chemical composition of emerald is (Be3Al2(SiO3)6). The green colour in emerald is because of chromium trace inside the stone.

Properties of emerald

Hardness _ 7.5 TO 8 on Mohs scale, Lustre_ Vitreous, Colour_ Green,

Crystal system_ hexagonal, Family _ Beryl.

The valuation of every Gemstone depends upon the “4 C's”: carat, colour, clarity, and cut.

If you are buying any expensive Gemstone you have to know bit about all four of these (“4 C's”), Try to buy Gemstone loose so you can check the weight of your precious Gem by yourself and can examine it properly.

Here are the “4 C's”

colour

As Colour is one of the major factors in establishing the value of a gemstone, same goes with emerald, the most demanding colour of emerald is vivid green, then comes bluish green to pure green. The most prized emeralds are the best greens (vivid green) with high transparency with no colour zoning.

cut

The cut of the stone depends upon the shape of rough, cut gives the stone an entirely different look. Some famous cuts of emerald are- Step cut, Brilliant cut, Mixed cut, Cabochon cut and Achler cut.

clarity

Clarity means how gemstone looks like on the inside. The clarity of emeralds makes them different from any other gemstone. Most emeralds have inclusions which include minor bits of gasses, other minerals and crystals, and liquids that emeralds take on during the crystallization process.

Carat

Carat weight plays a major role in the pricing of every Gemstone. eg 5 carat stone is expensive than 1 or 2 carat stone. Experts of Emerald always suggest buying smaller emerald rather than buying big one’s reason being, smaller one with excellent colour and transparency is priceless then the bigger one.

Next time when you go to buy an emerald for you, keep these small things in mind
